The Nexus Industrial cellular gateway and router is designed for industrial and outdoor applications. It is designed as a communications hub, able to connect to a variety of sources and link them to cloud servers for bidirectional monitoring and control. It is the central hub of the Nexus System, connecting a variety of SensePoint sensor nodes to the Internet.
An RS-485 port allows it to connect to a wide array of PLCs, controllers, sensors and other equipment using the Modbus protocol. It also supports a 10/100 Ethernet port for Modbus TCP or standard Ethernet communications. A single 4-pin M8 connector can be used for either RS-485 or Ethernet. An internal USB type A jack can be used for flash drives for additional storage or for connection to peripheral devices or converters.
The Nexus Industrial natively supports a variety of wireless protocols, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (5.2) and Thread. Additional wired and wireless technologies can be supported through the addition of an auxiliary M.2 card, such as Wi-Fi HaLow, a long-range 900MHz link and CAN bus.
A CAT-1 cellular modem connects the Nexus Industrial to cloud servers with a data rate that is high enough to support most Internet of Things (IoT) applications. This also integrates GPS into the gateway to provide positioning services.
Nexcomm Systems offers cloud services to maintain the data, generate reports and visualizations and send alerts and alarms through text, email and voice. However, these services are optional and the Nexcomm system can forward the data to a customer’s existing cloud services.
Housed in an IP67/68 diecast aluminum enclosure, the Nexus Industrial is ruggedized for harsh industrial and outdoor environments. An integrated mounting flange makes installation simple. A 110V waterproof power supply is available as an accessory. As an alternative, an adapter cable is available to convert the 3-pin M8 power connector to a standard 2.1 by 5.5mm barrel connector.
